ABOUT THE ARTIST
LeeChin is a self-taught artist and a stay-at-home mother to two beautiful twin girls. Although she has never received any formal training in traditional art, she has always loved painting and experimenting with colours, lines and textures on her own.Initially, her painting was purely therapeutic, to be kept as pieces to be enjoyed by family and friends. A few years later when the canvases started piling up, it has evolved and coalesced into something more than a side hobby, becoming a passion which brings her a sense of creativity, freedom, courage and confidence to express her thoughts and ideas to a wider audience. Most of her paintings are minimalistic, playful, and whimsical - what her daughters refer to as 'happy art'. She also paints based on her observations of the world around her, and takes inspiration from real life events and figures in her daily life. For example, when news broke that a mother bear and one of her cubs were killed by conservation officers in her neighbourhood, she was heartsick over the thought of the remaining orphaned cubs which were not found or rescued and wondered if they were safe and warm during winter. Those sad musings eventually gave rise to one of her more personal works “Baby Bear Who Lost its Home, and Everything”.Since year 2020, LeeChin started exhibiting her works locally in the Cities of Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, New Westminster, West Vancouver, Maple Ridge, Surrey, and Langley in B.C.. Recent exhibitions include a series of three self-portraits entitled “My States of Mind I, II and III” that focuses on anxiety, depression and mental health in women. These self-portraits are based on her personal motto which is to practise self-love and care, and to be kind to oneself. As LeeChin continues to explore and create art, she aspired to stay inspired and continue to grow as an artist. She is grateful for the trust, love and support from her beloved art patrons and all individuals who appreciate her art and have encouraged her along her journey.Last reviewed: January 2024
